A nearly 7,000-square-foot facility dedicated to advanced psychiatric care will open its doors in Rockville Aug. 5.
Greenbrook Mental Wellness Centers, part of Neuronetics, will celebrate the grand opening of its National Center of Excellence for Advanced Interventional Psychiatry, located on Shady Grove Road.
“The Rockville Center of Excellence is more than a new facility; it is a blueprint for the future of interventional psychiatry,” Cory Anderson, Greenbrook’s executive vice president and general manager, said in a news release. “By bringing together clinical innovation, advanced treatment options, and a patient-centered model of care, we are building a scalable approach to delivering interventional psychiatry and positioning Greenbrook to lead the field with the launch of innovative new treatment modalities.”
The center offers NeuroStar Advanced Therapy — a noninvasive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment — and Spravato (esketamine) nasal spray for patients with treatment-resistant depression or major depressive disorder with suicidal ideation.
NeuroStar TMS sessions take about 20 minutes each, with 36 sessions over six weeks. According to the company’s website, 83% of patients who completed NeuroStar treatment experienced “measurable depression relief,” with 62% achieving complete remission.
“Treatment-resistant depression remains one of the most urgent challenges in mental health care,” Dr. Geoffrey Grammer, the chief medical officer of Neuronetics and Greenbrook, said in the news release.
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is the leading TMS treatment for major depressive disorder in adults and adolescents ages 15 and older and is backed by the largest clinical data set of any TMS treatment system for depression, according to the news release.
The center will also serve as Greenbrook’s National Center for Clinical Innovation and Research, where new treatment approaches will be evaluated before being implemented nationwide. The specialized clinical infrastructure allows Greenbrook to help evaluate emerging psychedelic-class therapies if they receive future approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to the company.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 6 p.m., followed by tours of the new facility.
