Then + Now — Sales of Future Past

The Jetsons-era sign for Congressional Plaza on Rockville Pike, seen here in the 1960s, signaled to Space Age consumers the proximity of Peoples Drug and Giant Food, among the offerings. The 50-acre plaza opened in March 1959 on what had been Congressional Airport.

Now, the shopping center sports a more earthbound, manicured look, ironic because 2022 is said to be futuristic George Jetson’s birth year. Time, stop this crazy thing!
