AN AMERICAN TRADITION
February is Maple Sugaring Month at Brookside Nature Center in Wheaton and for the next two weekends, the center is hosting 45-minute tours that explain the process of making sweet maple syrup. You can watch the process from start to finish, where sap drips from trees to where it's boiled down into maple syrup. Better yet, the program includes mini pancake tastings.
There is a modest charge ($6 per person, but free to children 3 and under) and the tours start at 10:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. There are also limited tours on February 16 and 23. The maple syrup tours are popular and you will need to register in advance and dress accordingly since they are held outdoors. More Info

GIVING GUIDE
Montgomery County is one of the nation's wealthiest counties, yet there is need throughout our region. Support your neighbors by donating to a county-based charity. The issue's charity focus is Nourish Now, a Rockville organization that works to fight hunger and wasted food by collecting surplus fresh food from approximately 130 partners around the area. The recovered food, which is collected and transported under strict freshness requirements, is then donated to nearly 500 families and 60 local organizations each month. nourishnow.org
